Luckily, our experts are here to cut through the red tape. Which RAM trucks models have which engines, what do their ratings mean, and what do they do? Here's the long and short of it.

2019 RAM 1500

  • 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque: this engine can produce 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet, helping it achieve 20 city mpg and 25 highway mpg as well as, when 4x4-equipped, best-in-class fuel economy of 19 city mpg and 24 highway mpg. That means an equally best-in-class 4x4 driving range of as many as 624 miles on a full tank. Ditto for being able to tow up to 7,730 pounds.
  • 5.7-liter HEMI V8: this engine can put out 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet, meaning it can achieve 15 mpg city and 22 mpg highway as well as tow 11,610 pounds max.
  • 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with eTorque: this engine shells out 395 horsepower backed by 410 pound-feet of torque. That means 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, as well as best-in-class combined fuel economy of 19 mpg in 4x4 builds. It's also best-in-class on towing, capable of lugging 12,750 pounds. That translates to being able to haul a light trailerful like a pop-up tent camper, dirt bike, or ATV, or shoulder heavier weight like a powerboat, couple of jet skis, or second vehicle.

2019 RAM 2500

  • High-output 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I6: at 400 horsepower and capable of churning out a crushing 1,000 pound-feet of torque, this engine's towing and hauling ratings weigh in at 35,100 pounds and 6,570 pounds respectively.
